
The X-ray scanner operated at Abidjan Port Authority by BIVAC SCAN, a Bureau Veritas Group company, was inaugurated officially on
Wednesday May 28, 2008 in the presence of
Laurent Gbagbo, President of the Republic of Ivory Coast and of
Tony Mouawad, ExecutiveVice President of Bureau Veritas. The Minister of Economy and Finance, the Minister of Trade, the Director General of Customs and the Head of Abidjan Port Authority also attended the ceremony.
This high energy (6 MeV) scanner is capable of screening 30 trucks per hour through its double channel.
After one year of scanner operation combined with the risk analysis program, the customs control system at Abidjan Port has been improved. The Port's capacities to fight against fraud in the context of the international trade facilitation have been strongly increased. The improved containers traffic flow contributes to establish the competitiveness of the Port of Abidjan in West Africa.
On this occasion, Bureau Veritas celebrated in Abidjan its 180th Anniversary and its 44 year presence in Ivory Coast where the Group is very proud to participate in the strategic and technological development of the country.
